About event
Join us for an immersive evening of Dhrupad, the oldest form of Indian classical vocal music, presented by one of its most distinguished exponents, Pandit Uday Bhawalkar.
Deeply meditative and profoundly expressive, Dhrupad invites listeners into a space where sound becomes a path to stillness. Pt. Bhawalkar’s performances are known for their emotional depth, clarity of raga, and spiritual intensity. As he describes it, when immersed in the note and raga, the self dissolves and only the music remains.
About the Artist
Uday Bhawalkar is internationally recognized as one of the leading voices in the global revival of Dhrupad. He trained under the legendary masters Zia Fariduddin Dagar and Zia Mohiuddin Dagar, pillars of the revered Dagar tradition.
Since his debut in 1985, he has performed extensively across India and internationally, including appearances at major festivals such as the Salzburg Music Festival. He has collaborated with renowned artists including Zakir Hussain, and has contributed to global cultural exchange through performances, teaching, and interdisciplinary collaborations.
He currently serves as a Guru at leading institutions such as the ITC Sangeet Research Academy in Kolkata and Parampara Sangeetalay in Dhaka.
