🎭 About the Artist
Leela Samson is an internationally acclaimed Bharatanatyam dancer, choreographer, instructor, writer, and arts administrator. Renowned for her grace, precision, and deeply meditative style, she has inspired generations of dancers through her performances and pedagogy.
Her training began under the legendary Rukmini Devi Arundale at Kalakshetra, where she later became the institution’s Director (2005–2012). As a soloist, her mastery of rhythm and expression has captivated audiences in India, Europe, Africa, the Americas, and the Middle East. She has performed at prestigious venues such as the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden and Milapfest in Manchester, among many others.
In Delhi, she shaped the Bharatanatyam curriculum at Shriram Bharatiya Kala Kendra and Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, while continuing to choreograph and perform original works. In 1995, she founded Spanda, a dance ensemble known for its innovative compositions rooted in classical tradition.
